đź—“ We're building the holy grail of social networking: connection without friction

We set out to build a product for ourselves. A product where we could see what our friends were up to in real time.

Not where they were - we already had FindMy.

Not what they were seeing - we already had Instagram.

But what they were up to, throughout the day.

But we couldn’t expect people to log their day for everyone to see.

So we needed to create something that was frictionless, accurate and in real time.

We came up with a crazy idea to use the microphone in the background to do this.

What came out was a product where we could see what our friends were doing in the moment. What restaurant they were at. Who they were with. What food they were getting. When they were taking an Uber to the airport. Waiting at the gate. In a meeting at work.

….

That sounds scary for some, creepy for others, stalker-ish for most.

9 times out of 10 we would’ve discarded the idea.

Except it was so much fun to use

….

Innovation looks brilliant in hindsight, but weird in the moment.

We decided this was something we loved too much to not share with the world.

Somehow along the line we had breached the gap social networking was originally built for: to connect, without friction.
